Charges have been laid against a Kamloops security guard who was caught on video allegedly kicking a man.

Last March, Kamloops RCMP members began an investigation into incident which occurred on Victoria Street incident after the video surfaced. The investigation included reviewing and collecting surveillance footage, as well as speaking with witnesses and others present, according to an RCMP press release.

As a result of the investigation, charge recommendations were approved by B.C. Prosecution Services for one count of assault.

A summons was issued on Oct. 28 and served to the accused, Richard Eldridge, 55, of Kamloops. A court appearance is scheduled for November, according to the RCMP.

Eldridge worked for Lapper Security until the fallout from a video showed him kicking a man downtown. It resulted in a suspension of his licence.

Eldridge asserts that he was defending himself and identified the other man as Tristan Fernandez, who was recently charged in relation to a robbery at Lordco on Aug. 3.
