Sears fans in Kamloops will have to drive a little further to get their fix, as the retailer has announced the closing of 59 of its stores across Canada this morning.
While the Sears locations will remain open in Kelowna and Vernon, the Sears department store in the Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops will be shutting down.
The struggling retailer says it will close 20 full-line locations, plus 15 Sears Home stores, 10 Sears Outlet stores and 14 Sears Hometown locations. Five of locations being closed are in B.C. Along with the Kamloops closure, stores will be shuttered in Creston, Grand Forks, Sechelt and Abbotsford.
Approximately 2,900 jobs will be cut under a court-supervised restructuring.
The Sears store in West Kelowna was closed in 2015. The Penticton location closed last year, although a pickup location remains.
"The brand reinvention work Sears Canada has begun requires a long-term effort," Sears Canada said in a statement Thursday.
A timeline of the closures has not yet been disclosed.
