Kamloops Search and Rescue recruiting volunteers

Kamloops Search and Rescue are currently looking for new recruits. The organization says they will stop taking applications at the beginning of the summer.

KAMLOOPS - If you’re looking for a way to keep busy this summer, Kamloops Search and Rescue may have something in mind.

The volunteer-based emergency rescue service is looking for new recruits, according to a Facebook post. Those interested in applying must be at least 19 years old with no criminal record and have a valid driver’s license and their own transportation.

Kamloops Search and Rescue volunteers assist the RCMP, B.C. Ambulance Service and the B.C. Coroner’s Service with various tasks and regularly help promote outdoor safety to the public and in schools, the post says.

“On average, Kamloops Search and Rescue is called out for about 35 tasks a year,” Kamloops Search and Rescue says on its website.

Kamloops Search and Rescue volunteers are required to attend three regular training meetings a month. The organization says they are looking for committed volunteers who understand the significance of commitment after the training is completed.

“The single biggest reason people leave any volunteer organization is that they cannot keep up the commitment required so it is vital you understand there is a significant commitment of time and effort when you join Kamloops Search and Rescue,” the emergency rescue service says on its website.

Last year volunteers were called out to 49 tasks and completed 6,274 volunteer hours. The organization currently has 45 volunteers.
