KAMLOOPS - The search is on for a man wanted in connection with a large collection of firearms and explosives discovered by RCMP during a search of a home in Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP executed a search warrant at #1 1485 Lorne St. East today, Dec. 6. They were looking for Cameron Ronald Cole, 35, who's been charged with possessing prohibited firearms and improvised explosive devices with the intent to endanger life.

RCMP say in a media release devices were found that police thought were explosives and some neighbours were evacuated as a precaution until the explosive experts arrived and determined the devices were benign.

This investigation began nearly a year ago. In January, Kamloops RCMP attended a Badger Drive home in Dallas on a report of a home invasion. Upon suspicion of criminal activity they executed a search warrant and found numerous narcotics, firearms, and bomb-making materials. Three days later another search warrant was executed at a home in the Westsyde neighbourhood. Cole used both residences.

"What originally drew police to the home on Badger Drive was a report of a disturbance from neighbours," Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said in the release. "That disturbance was in fact an armed robbery, commonly referred to as a home invasion."

"What is particularly disturbing is that this activity was occurring in an otherwise nice neighbourhood where it would be common to see children playing on the streets. However, behind closed doors there was serious criminal activity that attracted more criminal activity. Our bomb disposal experts were required to make this property safe and that type of treacherous activity has no place in Kamloops."

There is an outstanding arrest warrant for Cole. His current whereabouts are unknown. He's been known to use the alias of Jeff Parks.

RCMP say it's possible Cole has rented other properties, either residential or commercial, and are worried there may be illegal or dangerous items stored there. Police are asking landlords to have a look at the photo of Cole and call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 if they may have rented a property to him.

Charles Gerald Patrick, 62, is also wanted on charges of possessing prohibited weapons and possessing property obtain through crime, although police don't explain his connection to Cole.

If you see either Cole or Patrick, police ask that you do not approach them and instead contact the RCMP or call 911. If you know the whereabouts of either suspect, contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
