A suspect who allegedly ran a red light then later tried to ram a police car, all while driving a stolen vehicle, has been captured on video.

At about 1:10 a.m. on Dec. 16, Kamloops RCMP spotted a man who seemed to be impaired driving a dark 2017 Dodge Ram with headache rack at a North Shore drive-thru.

Police later found that the vehicle had been reported stolen the night before from the 200 block of Pemberton Terrace.

The driver left the drive-thru and police followed him on Tranquille Road near Fortune Avenue. Police tried a traffic stop but the man allegedly ran a red light and fled, according to an RCMP news release.

“Officers located the vehicle again near Grasslands Boulevard, at which point it apparently ran a stop sign and accelerated towards a police vehicle, causing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a collision,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, wrote in the news release.

On Dec. 21, the vehicle was located abandoned.

Surveillance footage from the drive-thru shows a Caucasian man about 20 to 30 years old wearing a red jacket and striped toque.

Anyone with dash cam footage or other information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
