Kamloops RCMP investigating cause of early morning house fire

KAMLOOPS - Police and fire investigators are working to determine if an early morning fire on the North Shore was suspicious.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release police were alerted to a house fire in the 200 block of Oak Road around 5:30 a.m. today, April 19.

Kamloops Fire Rescue was on scene and the house was quickly engulfed by flames, Shelkie says. There were five people in the residence when the fire broke out and all of them made it out safely.

Within an hour, fire crews had contained the fire.

"As the cause of the fire is not known, both police and fire investigators are on scene to determine if the fire is suspicious," Shelkie says in the release.

Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen someone suspicious in the area early this morning to contact them at 250-828-3000.
