KAMLOOPS - The South Thompson River near Valleyview is now open after police completed a search for a missing jet skier.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release the RCMP dive team continued to scour the river today, July 31, looking for a missing man, who was last seen in the river after a collision between his personal watercraft and another personal watercraft.

No sign of the missing man was found by the dive team, Shelkie says. The stretch of the river between the Valleyview boat launch and the Lafarge Bridge is now open to the public.

Shelkie says the dive team used sonar technology to search a 300-metre by 700-metre area yesterday in the area where the man was last seen, and today they expanded the search.

After yesterday's search, the boating public was allowed back in the area shortly after 9:30 p.m., but police did not find any sign of the missing man, who's believed to be roughly 30 years old.

Shelkie told iNFOnews.ca yesterday that witnesses say the man was wearing a life jacket that had to be manually deployed, and it's unknown if he was able to deploy it.
