Boaters asked to stay off part of South Thompson River while divers search for missing jet skier

KAMLOOPS - There have been no new developments in the search for a missing jet skier in the South Thompson River today, but police are asking recreational boaters to stay away from the area while divers search for him.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release the RCMP dive team is currently searching for the missing man, who is roughly 30 years old. Starting immediately, police are asking all boat traffic to refrain from being on the South Thompson River from the Lafarge Bridge to the Valleyview boat launch.

Police will alert the public once divers have completed their search.

Shelkie tells iNFOnews.ca that there have been no new leads in the search today, July 30, but the RCMP helicopter and boat are assisting the dive team.

She adds that witnesses have stated the man was wearing a life jacket, but it was a type that had to be manually deployed, and it's unknown if he was able to deploy it.

Kamloops RCMP said in a news release last night that emergency crews responded to the South Thompson River at roughly 6:30 p.m. yesterday, July 29, for a report of a collision between two personal watercraft. One of the drivers disappeared after the crash.
