Kamloops RCMP announced to the public it was looking for a wanted man yesterday, but he was already in custody.

Joel Eric Carlson, 30, is charged with multiple counts of breaching release orders and conditional sentence orders.

Kamloops RCMP asked the public to provide information on his whereabouts yesterday, May 3. Early this afternoon, May 4, RCMP released a statement that said, "(Carlson) was, and remains in custody, at the time the release was issued."

A family member of Carlson's told iNFOnews.ca he had turned himself in around three weeks ago, just after learning of a warrant for his arrest in April. The family member also said he has an ankle monitor and it "wouldn't make sense" for him to run from custody.

A warrant was issued on April 12 and he's been in custody in Surrey since around that time, according to the family member.

Carlson was previously convicted of a sexual assault in Vernon and also faces several other sexual assault charges.
