Kamloops police standoff ends without injury after several hours

A man in Kamloops had a standoff with police for hours after an alleged assault.

Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP received a report of an assault in the 3000 block of Rose Hill Road around 7 a.m. today, Oct. 1, according to a press release from police.

When officers arrived they found the victim was outside the home and safe, but the suspect was still inside and police believed he might have guns and other weapons.

“Due to the perceived risk presented by the possible presence of weapons, the assistance of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was requested to help keep the situation as safe as possible,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

There was a police presence around the Knutsford home for hours, but the suspect surrendered in the early afternoon and was taken into custody. Police said officers will clear out of the area shortly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-314-1800 and reference file 2024-32728.
