Driver high on cannabis nabbed by North Okanagan RCMP
One of three drivers caught driving while impaired last weekend in the North Okanagan was high on cannabis RCMP said.
A man driving a pickup on Wood Avenue in Armstrong was stopped by police at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP don’t say what prompted the traffic stop.
While speaking to the driver, the officer “formed the opinion the man was driving under the influence of cannabis,” RCMP said.
The drive was given a standard field sobriety test. RCMP don’t say what the test involved.
The man had his drivers’ licence taken away for 24 hours for being impaired by drugs and his vehicle was impounded.
Earlier that night at around 10 p.m., Sept. 21, an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Mill Street in Armstrong for a sobriety check.
The officer suspected the driver was impaired by alcohol and he was given a breathalyzer test which resulted in a warning reading. The man was issued an immediate three day roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for three days.
An hour later, the same officer pulled over a driver on Rosedale Avenue. This driver provided two breathalyzer samples both of which were fails. She was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
“It’s unfortunate to see people continuing to make poor decisions, needlessly endangering themselves and others by driving while impaired,” Vernon North Okanagan media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
“Our officers are committed to keeping our streets and communities safe and will continue to target and remove impaired drivers from our roads. Please do your part; make responsible choices and never drive impaired.”
