KAMLOOPS - A Kamloops man won the lottery the day after buying a new car and just a few months after moving to the city.
Garrett Niessen won $500,000 when he matched four out of four numbers on the Extra prize from the Aug. 30 Daily Grand draw, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release.
“I logged into my PlayNow account and noticed a few extra zeros on the top right hand corner. I started counting them and realized I actually won the lottery,” Niessen says in the release. “I called my wife over and we both screamed instantly. To say we were excited is an understatement.”
Niessen relocated to Kamloops with his wife to be closer to family.
“We’ve been settling in, spending time getting to know the community, getting organized in our new home and buying a new vehicle to get around town,” he says.
The cash was enough to pay cash for the new car.
“Our friend at the dealership had a great laugh with us when we went to hand him the cheque for the full amount,” Niessen says.
