The new mayor of Kamloops wants candidates who lost in the municipal election to provide their input as the sitting council prepares for strategic planning.

Reid Hamer-Jackson said he's considered reaching out to the candidates who lost for their input.

"I've never been to a strategic planning meeting in my life. Why not get more ideas?" he said. "This is a bank of information that all invested in our community."

The elected council will start setting their strategic goals for the next term on Friday in meetings with a facilitator and various City staff.

"Not that council has to use it or even look at it," Hamer-Jackson said, adding he hasn't discussed getting input from past candidates with his colleagues on council.

He met with former councillor and mayoral candidate Arjun Singh yesterday, Jan. 23, but he hasn't been able to get contact information for other candidates through City staff.

"He sounds like he would chime in," Hamer-Jackson said of Singh. "(Candidates) spent a lot of money and I'm sure they have a lot of great ideas."

He didn't provide specifics when asked about his ideas as he prepares for upcoming strategic plans, which will dictate this new council's goals for the next term.

Instead, he's hoping the failed council and mayoral candidates with suggestions will reach out to city hall.
