It was 3 a.m. during the night shift when Gregory Vaal of Kamloops decided to scratch his lotto ticket. It turns out it was worth $100,000.
A winning Set for Life scratch ticket was gifted to him by a generous colleague.
“I was working the night shift when my co-worker gave everyone a mug filled with chocolate and a lottery ticket,” Vaal said in a B.C. Lottery Corporation press release issued today, March 29. “I decided to scratch it at 3 a.m. with my colleague and he told me I won so I scanned it on the lotto app.”
The winning ticket was bought at the Real Canadian Superstore on Columbia Street West.

When Vaal broke the news to his colleagues, they were very excited for him.
When he’s not working in the middle of the night, Vaal spends time volunteering and he plans on sharing a big portion of his prize money with a few different charities. He will also be putting some away for his kid’s college or university.
“I’ve given to various charities and helped out with many crises throughout the world,” he said. “I feel like this is a gift coming back to us. It’s quite remarkable.”
