A Kamloops man is recovering from multiple injuries after he tried to save his 15-year-old stepdaughter after she fell into a waterfall near Revelstoke.

An online fundraiser was launched yesterday, July 19, to support Ryan Fisher as he recovers from the 70-foot fall.

"Ryan raced to stop his stepdaughter from falling. Unfortunately he was too late and they both toppled over the edge," the fundraiser organized by Gordon Leary and Bonnie Pryce reads.

The 15-year-old was found dead July 17 by RCMP and a search and rescue team, one day after she slipped over Akolkolex Falls.

RCMP didn't identify either Fisher or his stepdaughter at the time.

Fundraiser organizers are aiming to support Fisher while he recovers for the next few months and grieves the loss of a child.

"Ryan sustained many severe injuries to his head, his pelvis, ribs, lungs, spleen and spine. After upcoming surgeries Ryan will be in the hospital for some time," the fundraiser reads. "Even after he returns home it will take a while for him to return to his work as a craftsman floor layer."

Organizers are hoping to raise $40,000 and in less than a day have collected more than $8,000.

"Ryan is an amazing, adventurous photographer with an eye for the beauty of the natural world around us. This is where he finds himself most at home," the fundraiser  reads. "Please help us support Ryan so he can get back on his feet and continue sharing the beauty that he sees in the world through his photography."

The fundraiser can be found here.
