Garbage day is an exciting time for two Kamloops boys but even more than usual this week after the truck driver left them each a gift.

"My boys have always loved the garbage truck," Catherine Jelinic, the boys' mom, said. "They always wave, and the guy always waves back, and they find it absolutely thrilling."

On Wednesday, the garbage truck driver surprised brothers five-year-old Ivan, 5, and Marko, 4, leaving them each a toy car.

"Before I could do anything, they went running outside to pick out their trucks," Jelinic said. "Now my boys just won’t stop playing with them."

Garbage day has always been a big deal in their household, she said, and the kindness of the driver plays a big role in that.

"The driver is such a great guy," she said. "I don’t know who he is, but he brought such a smile to my kids’ faces."

She wants to thank the driver for making it so special for her kids.

"It brings enjoyment to the whole house, especially with everything that’s been going on with the pandemic," she said. "Getting that wave, it’s something for them to look forward to."
