Kamloops fire crews have extinguished a two-hectare grass fire on Tk'emlúps land today.

Firefighters were called to the grass fire on a vacant lot near Salish Road and Halston Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. today, May 26, near the old drive-in.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Shawn Davidson said the area is mostly green space, so no structures were threatened by the fire, but there was mixed debris and garbage.

Within an hour of arriving, firefighters with a fire engine, three bush trucks and two water tenders had the grass fire contained.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but investigators have been notified of the incident, Davidson said.
