Kamloops entrepreneur holding contest to find the best new name for her business

Nicole Duff, owner of WALK STAR Dog Caddy, is looking for a new business name.

A Kamloops entrepreneur who saw her product hitting shelves across Western Canada two months ago has run into an obstacle, and she is asking the public to help.

Nicole Duff invented the WALK STAR Dog Waste Caddy which is designed to carry and dispose of used dog poop bags in an easier and less gross way. The caddy is now on pet store shelves and Duff is taking it to the TV show Dragon’s Den in January.

Duff said the business has been growing in leaps and bounds, until now.

“We’ve run into a trademark issue in the USA,” Duff said. “Unfortunately someone registered the same business name there recently before us and it’s in the same industry so we’re hooped to sell there under our name.”

Duff said she needs to come up with a new name as soon as possible.

“I have been racking my brain for weeks to no avail,” she said. “Everything I thought of that I like is already trademarked in the same class.”

Duff said she is asking the community for a business name that works with her brand, and she is ready to pay $100 for it.

“The name needs to be short and snappy and it would be great if it worked as a noun,” she said.

You can submit your name idea by posting it on Duff’s Facebook page here.

The Duff's started developing the product over three years ago. The bottom cup part is made of silicone and the top half has a sealable cap designed to prevent odours from escaping. She said the caddy can expand to accommodate a Great Dane's poop bag.

The idea for The WALK STAR Dog Waste Caddy was inspired by Duff's personal experience as a dog owner.
