KAMLOOPS - More than $12,000 in cash and over a 100 grams of cocaine were seized by Kamloops RCMP after a downtown drug raid.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says members of the Drug Unit and Targeted Enforcement Unit conducted a raid on a residence on St. Paul Street and 7 Avenue last week.

Shelkie says the home had been the subject of frequent complaints from neighbours and businesses in the area due to alleged criminal activity.

Police say sufficient evidence was gathered and a warrant was obtained and executed for the home on Oct. 27. Two people were arrested and Shelkie says a third person is expected to be arrested in the coming weeks.

A 48-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were arrested. Both are from Kamloops and known to police. They were released from custody pending a future court date, but on Nov. 2, police found the couple to be in breach of the conditions of their release.

They were arrested again and are being held in custody until they appear in front of a judge. The raid led to 107 grams of cocaine, more than $12,000 in cash along with drug paraphernalia being seized.

“Any time drugs are removed from the streets it makes our community safer,” Shelkie says in the release. “The work of these RCMP officers in identifying, targeting and arresting the people who supply drugs will have an impact on all citizens.”
