Kamloops councillor Bill Sarai seeks NDP seat

A Kamloops city councillor in his second term is looking for a seat in the legislature.

Coun. Bill Sarai will be putting his name in the running to represent the BC NDP for the Kamloops-Centre riding, he told iNFOnews.ca.

Whether he'll have any competition for the NDP nomination isn't clear. Riding association president Tom Friedman did not respond to an inquiry from iNFOnews.ca and there have been no announcements about nominations for the party.

As the 2024 election looms, no candidates for the newly-created riding have been announced yet, other than the incumbent BC United MLA.

Peter Milobar, who is currently representing Kamloops-North Thompson, will be on the ballot this time for what was formerly the Kamloops-South Thompson riding.

Sarai did not respond when asked for more details about his campaign.

He's the first person to come forward to challenge the two BC United incumbents.

The BC Conservative Party has also been quiet. On Jan. 17, executive director for the party Angelo Isidorou said both candidates for Kamloops would be announced in three weeks.

Conservative MLA Bruce Banman did visit Kamloops last month, but there has been no announcement.
