KAMLOOPS - Kamloops city councillor Arjun Singh is going to Cambodia for 10 days as part of a Federation of Canadian Municipalities initiative.

During his trip to Cambodia, Singh will work with two other members of the federation to help train local people in areas of local government policy, and support the advancement of women in local government in Southeast Asian country.

Singh says during the trip they will be providing training for local economic development in an effort to help communities encourage more business creation.

“Also, helping them work through some things there, communications, public relations, member engagement and advocacy to the national government,” he says.

The group will be in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, for five days and then travel to the city of Siem Reap for a few days.

“I have never been away from Kamloops for this long before, so it is a new thing for me. But I have lots of support from the council in Kamloops and good support from the community," Singh says. “I hope I can learn things there about how they do things so I can bring some things back to Kamloops.”

Singh notes the trip will be beneficial for him and the community as a whole.

“It’s not one of those things where I’m going to teach them. We will teach each other and I think it will be powerful."
