BC's health minister says plans for a Kamloops cancer centre are completed, but he hasn't any details on it yet.

Adrian Dix was asked about the plan during a news conference today, Jan. 10, and said the plan was finished toward the end of 2023.

"The business plan is completed and we'll be happy to share details soon," Dix said.

The long-awaited cancer centre was promised nearly four years ago by then-premier John Horgan, who pitched to Kamloops it would be completed before the 2024 election during a campaign stop in Kamloops during the 2020 election.

The province didn't produce a business plan for the cancer centre before Horgan's retirement, but Dix visited Kamloops to announce a plan would be finished before the end of the year.

Dix said today that the Kamloops and Nanaimo cancer centre business plans are complete and the facility near Royal Inland Hospital took longer and was more complicated because it includes additional parking.

He didn't share any more details about the plan.

During Dix's visit in May, he said the first patients would be accepted in 2027, but those needing radiation therapy will continue to travel to Kelowna for treatment until then.
