KAMLOOPS - The Kamloops Blazers are welcoming two new coaches to the roster for the upcoming season.

General manager Matt Bardsley says in a media release Shaun Clouston will be the team’s head coach and Darryl Sydor will be the associate coach.

Clouston has spent over 15 years coaching the Medicine Hat Tigers, who won WHL championships in 2004 and 2007, according to the Blazers. He was an assistant and associate coach for the team, and from 2013 to 2019 was the head coach and general manager. He has helped the team win more games than any other coach, and currently has 391 wins under his belt, the third highest of active coaches in the WHL.

“It is a tremendous honour to join the Kamloops Blazers organization. I am excited to meet our players and eager to begin working alongside Matt, Darryl and our entire staff in creating a successful team both on the ice and in the community. My family and I look forward to making Kamloops our new home,” Clouston says in the release.

Sydor was the assistant coach for the Blazers last year, and is stepping into the role as associate coach for the 2019-2020 season. The Blazers say he has an extensive history in the sport, playing 1291 NHL games and winning the Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and Tampa Bay in 2004.

He has spent the last nine hockey seasons coaching, with six of those seasons as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues.

Although he grew up in Edmonton, Kamloops is Sydor's family home and he is eager to work with the athletes here.

“I am excited to help create a culture I was once a part of during my playing days with this franchise. I believe Shaun and I will be able to help our players reach their goals,”  Sydor say in the release. “Kamloops is my family’s home and we are excited to continue to raise our family in this community.”
