A judge sent a Kamloops-area man to prison after he was caught 3D printing so-call ghost guns.

The illegal guns landed Adrian Picketts-Yoxall a three-and-a-half year sentence after a hearing on July 30.

BC's provincial gang squad searched his Heffley Creek home in January 2022 where they found the printer and firearms. They were tipped off a month earlier about a trade network of privately made firearms in the Thompson-Okanagan.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit found, among the firearm components they seized, three 3D printed receivers, which would typically include a serial number and are illegal to build at home.

Initially facing six firearms-related charges, Picketts-Yoxall pleaded guilty this spring to one count each of firearms manufacturing and possession of a firearm.

"The illegal manufacture of firearms poses a serious threat to our communities. This sentencing sends a clear message — we will not tolerate the production of untraceable weapons," gang squad spokesperson Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha said in a news release.
