Kaleden man facing several charges after West Kelowna shooting

WEST KELOWNA – A 41-year-old man is behind bars after a violent altercation involving a gun and a break and enter at a West Kelowna home last week.

At 5:41 p.m. on Dec. 23, police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in a home on Last Road, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

Police say the suspect tried to force his way into the home wielding a loaded handgun.

A resident of the house and the suspect were involved in an altercation and the suspect was shot in "a lower extremity," O’Donaghey says.

After the scuffle, the suspect fled and went to the hospital where he was arrested.

O’Donaghey says this was an isolated incident, not a random attack and that no one else in the house was injured.

Darryn Allen Nelson of Kaleden is facing several criminal charges including break and enter, uttering threats and firearms offences.

Nelson will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP General Investigations Section at 250-768-2880.
