Police have made several arrests and seized weapons, drugs and cash as part of an initiative to target known drug traffickers in Kamloops.
The Kamloops Crime Reduction Unit teamed up with the BC Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, from Nov. 2 to Nov. 5, to target local violent drug dealers, according to an RCMP press release issued today, Nov. 24.
The joint initiative made six arrests, and seized drugs, a handgun, a hatchet, knives and cash.
“By using intelligence-based policing practices, officers were able to identify offenders and extend efforts to suppress and disrupt the criminal activities of those involved in drug dealing and localized violence,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.
The suspects arrested have been released pending further investigation. No possible charges or the suspects' identities have been released by RCMP.
“Information provided by the public and obtained by police in their day-to-day operations is instrumental in developing the intel that supports these initiatives and advances our goals of reducing criminal activity locally,” Supt. Pelley said.
Anyone with information about criminal activity in the city is encouraged to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
