Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for a large section of the southern Interior as visibility could be reduced to zero at times.

The advisory is in effect for the Shuswap, Okanagan, Boundary, Similkameen, West Kootenay, Arrow Lakes-Slocan Lake, Southern sections of Kootenay Lake including Creston, East Kootenay south including Cranbrook and Elk Valley regions.

The weather office said visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

"Areas of fog and low cloud will develop tonight (Jan. 21) as a ridge of high pressure from offshore builds in," the advisory reads. "Patchy fog and low cloud will temporarily lift near noon on Saturday."

The fog and low cloud will likely return Sunday night.
