An 18-year-old was found dead in a Tk'emlups parking lot two years ago, and police are hoping to refresh the public's memory in the hope of generating tips as the search for his killer continues.

Paramedics were the first to the scene at around 8 a.m., Jan. 29, 2022. They called RCMP to the Chilcotin Road parking lot where Jagraj Dhinsa died of his injuries.

"The murder of Jagraj Dhinsa was a senseless act of violence and the investigation remains a priority," Southeast District major crimes unit Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said in a news release issued today, Feb. 1.

Police saw he suffered "obvious injuries" when they got to the scene, but said they won't be releasing the cause of his death "to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation."

"It is important to police that the person(s) responsible for his murder be held accountable and it is even more important for Mr. Dhinsa’s family to be provided with some semblance of closure so that they can begin to heal from the terrible ordeal," Staff Sgt. Smart said.

The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate concurrent to the RCMP homicide investigation, but the autopsy confirmed he was murdered shortly after the investigation began.

Police linked the discovery of Dhinsa's body to a black Honda Accord that was found near the intersection of Dallas Drive and Lafarge Road around the same time, but have not explained what the connection is.

"We are asking anyone with information related to this investigation, including Mr. Dhinsa’s activities and whereabouts leading up to his death, to please contact the police," Staff Sgt. Smart said.

Anyone with information or surveillance video that may be related to this investigation is asked to call the South East District Major Crime Unit information line at 1-877-987-8477.
