The Vernon and District Immigrant and Community Services Society is vying to win $100,000 for its video series aiming to increase vaccine confidence for newcomers to Canada.
Earlier this month, the society launched five videos as part of its campaign that saw local immigrants answering the question: “Who Do You Miss?”
The society was selected as a finalist for the Public Health Agency of Canada's Vaccine Community Innovation Challenge. The winner get $100,000 to invest in programs promoting public health.
The videos have been well received by the community, gathering more than 12,000 Facebook views, according to a press release from the society.
“We have received some great anecdotal stories from clients and their families and friends who have gone out and received their first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” society CEO Philipp Gruner said in the release. “Our goal with this campaign remains to inform and help answer any questions newcomers to Canada may have regarding the vaccine and COVID, in general.”
The immigrant society also recently launched another short video compiling the stories from six local immigrants, who tell viewers who they miss in Punjabi, Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish and Albanian.
The immigrant society is encouraging the public to follow their Facebook page to watch and share the videos as they are released in the coming weeks or view them on YouTube in Arabic, English, Mandarin, Punjabi and Spanish.
