Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds has sent a message to his old B.C. high school and shared a little advice to the graduating class.

“Kitsilano was the best thing that ever happened to me, up until that point. To this day I’m still friends with so many people I graduated with,” he said in a video posted on his YouTube account.

He offered more serious advice in-between jokes for the class at Kitsilano Secondary School, encouraging graduates to be empathetic.

“One thing that’s worked for me is practicing some form of compassion every day, for yourself, or for someone else,” he said in the video.

“Empathy has got me so much more, and so much farther in my life and my career,” he said. “I know that as soon as you saw me, you were expecting dick jokes, but I’m going to save those for your university commencement speech where you’ll need them.”

He ended the video with a note about Nat's New York Pizzeria, stating that every graduate will get a free large pizza on him.
