A vehicle went up in flames last night in Kamloops and RCMP are investigating the suspicious fire.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Darryl Cooper says they got a call to the Ord Road dog park area at about 7:30 p.m. yesterday, May 24.

“It came in as a structure fire, but it did turn out to be a motor vehicle fire,” Cooper says. “When engine two arrived on the scene and found out it was a motor vehicle, everybody else got cancelled.”

No one was injured during the blaze. Cooper confirmed the fire may be suspicious, although the investigation continues.

“I would agree, a suspicious fire yes. The RCMP will be investigating,” Cooper says. “There was an explosion noted.”

Brocklehurst resident Tina D. Hansen filmed the blaze from her back deck and says that she heard four or five explosions during the incident.

“(I) saw the white SUV park, the driver’s door opened (and) a guy with a black hoody over his head came out of the driver’s side. I went downstairs for under two minutes, by the time I came back up is what you see in the video,” Hansen says. “(It) happened so fast. I heard 4 to 5 big explosions.”

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Edward Preto says no suspect has been arrested yet, although police continue to investigate.
