iN TRAFFIC: Snow expected on some Thompson-Okanagan highways this morning

Snow turning to rain is expected in the more southerly mountain passes in the Thompson-Okanagan today, Feb. 6.

The Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt can expect up to 5 cm of snow expected his morning, changing to rain this afternoon, according to the B.C. Travellers Forecast. The snow level should rise from 800 metres this morning to 1,400 meters this afternoon.

There are slushy and slippery sections from 6 km south of the Great Bear Snowshed to 29 km south of Merritt, according to DriveBC.

On the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops there’s a 30% chance of flurries and 40% on the Okanagan Connector.

Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton is forecast to have periods of snow mixed with rain today, with the snow level rising from 700 metres this morning to 1,200 metres this afternoon.

There is limited visibility due to fog on Highway 1 from 6 km east of Kamloops to Revelstoke.

On Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass there should be a mix of sun and cloud this morning, turning to snow this afternoon with about 2 cm of snow today and another 5 cm tonight.

Environment Canada forecasts a 30% chance of flurries early this morning in Kamloops with a high today of 6 Celsius.

There should be increasing cloudiness this morning in Vernon and Kelowna with a high today of 5 C. Penticton should get cloudy skies with a high of 6 C today.

Sun Peaks Ski Resort had 7 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours leaving the hill with an alpine base of 188 cm. It’s -5 C.

Silver Star Mountain Resort is -3 C, with 4 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours and an alpine base of 196 cm.

Big White Ski Resort had 6 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours, is -4 C and has an alpine base of 197 cm.

Apex Mountain Resort had 3 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours has an alpine base of 172 cm and is -5 C.
