The month of October has given shutterbugs in Kamloops and the Okanagan ample opportunity to capture the beauty of autumn including vibrant turning leaves, migrating birds and even a dusting of the first snow of the year.

October also saw a rare supermoon, even rarer levels of aurora activity and a couple of meteor showers.

For Vernon-based landscape photographer Kaung Myat, autumn is his favourite time of the year for photography.

“There's something truly magical about the transformation of nature as the leaves turn vibrant shades of red, orange and yellow,” he said. “The way these colours come alive under the soft autumn light creates a warm and cozy atmosphere, making each scene feel more dynamic and inviting."

He said fallen leaves add texture add layers to his photographs while misty conditions create moods.

“The autumn colours truly pop against the darker moody sky in that type of condition especially in the early morning,” Myat said.

He's an avid hiker and enjoys hiking in the fall when the temperature is comfortable.

“I often find myself using photography as the perfect excuse to get out and explore nature, and sometimes it’s the promise of a new adventure that motivates me to grab my camera,” he said. “It’s a beautiful cycle that keeps me moving, whether I’m chasing the perfect shot or simply enjoying the journey.

“Both pursuits offer me a deeper connection to the nature around me and, together, they bring out the best in each experience.”
