Impaired driving suspected in Kamloops car carrier crash

A semi loaded with vehicles left the road and crashed into the front yard of a home in Kamloops early this morning, Oct. 18, 2022.

An Alberta man has a court date after a car hauler plowed through four vehicles into two front yards in Kamloops yesterday.

The driver fled after the commercial truck crashed, but police soon found him and took him into custody.

“The suspect was later released by police and given a court date," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release issued today.

He's expected to face criminal charges, including impaired driving, but they haven't yet been approved by Crown prosecutors.

“Although the suspect has received a court date to answer to the alleged offences, the investigational requirements are ongoing and police encourage anyone with information or video related to the incident to please reach out as soon as possible," Cpl. Evelyn said.

Kamloops RCMP were called around 4:20 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 18, to Columbia Street where the truck damaged four vehicles and ended up across the front yards of two homes.

The truck forced three of the vehicles off the spot they were parked on the side of the street.

One of the homes had just been repaired after it was burned down last summer.

The car hauler didn't lose any of the vehicles it was carrying.

At least part of Columbia Street between 12 and 13 Street was closed for much of the day as officials waited for a large tow truck to arrive and remove car hauler.

Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone in the area who witnessed the collision, or has video footage, to contact the detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-37339.
