If you need to book a road test with ICBC, you might be able to get an appointment next month.

ICBC has added 2,000 new testing slots in September, according to a press release. The crown corporation said it will be adding 6,000 more over the coming weeks, although mostly at locations in the Lower Mainland.

After cancelling all road tests in March through to June due to COVID-19, ICBC began testing again in July.

New driver examiners have been trained and more testing sites have been opened to address the backlog caused by the pandemic, ICBC said. However, demand is still high and the insurer is urging customers to come prepared for their test to avoid having to reschedule if they fail. Currently, the fail rate for road tests is over 40 per cent.

ICBC is also making changes at its stations to increase capacity for those taking knowledge tests, while also adhering to physical distancing requirements. Some locations will also have extended hours of operation in the coming weeks.
