THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - The guy or gal you have your eye on has said yes to a date, but Valentine’s Day is less than a week away and you have no idea how to plan the perfect date.
Elizabeth deVries of Together By Design, says you need to think about the experience and connecting on the date. As the owner of a small family business of planning ‘surprise’ dates for couples and families, she knows a thing or two on how to plan a good date.
Here are her tips for making your date memorable:
- Try something new. Not only does trying something new with someone who is special to you provide a great memory, you might find something you didn’t even realize you’d like. Climbing and cooking together have been two popular date activities for Together By Design.
- Leave time to talk. Don’t go to a movie, where you can’t talk, and then to a noisy restaurant, where you can’t really talk. Try to share an experience that can be discussed as it's happening and reflected on later as well.
- Have someone else plan the date so it’s a surprise for both of you.
- If money is something of a concern, be sure to have a budget in place and cash on you. Otherwise it could become a frustrating or stressful evening.
- Remember that if you are going to commit to relaxing, you will need to let some things go.
- And possibly the most important tip, turn off the phone and actually spend time together.
