Ever wonder how the biggest store in Kelowna is going to switch to an even larger location overnight?

Costco is planning to open its new 167,177 square foot location some time in February – the exact date has yet to be announced – with all new stock, leaving everything still on the shelves in the current 135,000 square foot building behind.

“The current location will close the evening before the new one opens,” Martin Groleau, Costco’s vice-president for e-commerce, wrote in an email to iNFOnews.ca. “When we open a new location or, like this case, we relocate a location, all the inventory will be new inventory (almost 0 will come from the current locations).”

Every effort will be made to keep the existing store shelves fully stocked but to have a minimum of “overstock” so shoppers can get the full range of products up to the last day.

“For fresh products we will ensure that we sell out the inventory,” Groleau wrote.

What’s left behind in the old store will be redistributed to other B.C. Costco warehouses in the weeks following the closure.
