Hot, sunny weekend in store for the Okanagan

Sunny skies in the Okanagan

OKANAGAN - A hot and sunny weekend is expected in the Okanagan. Until then, however, you might see clouds, rain and even thunder depending where you are in the valley.

Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud and local smoke in the Central and South Okanagan today, Aug. 24, with highs around 27 Celsius. It will be windy, with a south wind at 30 km/h gusting to 50. Overnight, expect a few clouds and a low around 10 C.

It's a different weather story in the North Okanagan today with a mix of sun and cloud, local smoke, a 30 per cent chance of showers and the risk of a thundershower. It will be windy today. The forecast calls for a south wind at 30 km/h gusting to 50 before it becomes northwest at 30 km/h gusting to 60 late this afternoon thanks to the cold front moving through further north in the Shuswap and South Thompson. It will be partly cloudy tonight, with local smoke, a 30 per cent chance of showers early in the evening with the risk of a thunderstorm. The wind will become light this evening with a low of 9 C.

Forecasters are predicting a mainly sunny day in the Okanagan tomorrow with highs of about 24 C. It will be clear overnight with a low of 10 C.

The unsettled weather should make way for a hot and sunny weekend.

The forecast calls for sunshine and highs of 27 C on Saturday and 29 C on Sunday.

The hot weather will continue into early next week with sunny skies and highs around 30 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 25 C and lows of 10 C.
