A 32-year-old Scotch Creek man is dead after he was shot last week.

Chase RCMP responded to the 4100 block of Squilax-Anglemont Road on June 25, around 5:45 a.m, where they found John Vance, 32, had been shot, according to a release from B.C. RCMP Southeast District.

Vance later died due to his injuries and B.C. RCMP Major Crime Unit are now investigating the homicide.

On Friday afternoon, RCMP confirmed they had a man in custody, but he has since been released without conditions.

Police released Vance's name and a photo in an effort to continue the investigation.

"Major crime investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or interacted with John during the early morning hours of June 25 to come forward and speak with police," Staff Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner of the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit said.

Anyone with information can contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
