Homicide at Kamloops Howard Johnson Motel

FILE PHOTO

While responding to a "shots fired complaint" at a Kamloops motel Feb. 13, Mounties found themselves at the start of a homicide investigation.

Kamloops RCMP responded to the shots fired call at the Howard Johnson Motel in the 500 block of Columbia Street Saturday night and, in one of the units, the man who they've yet to identify was found dead.

"Based on the preliminary investigation this event appears to be targeted and related to the illicit drug trade," RCMP said in a press release.

"The Serious Crime Unit has taken over this case, and along with members in Frontline Policing they continue to collect evidence and information during these early stages of the investigation. There is currently no one in custody in relation to this shooting."

As this was a targeted shooting the police believe there is not an immediate safety concern to the general public.

They are asking that anyone who may have information in regards to the shooting to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers.
