NEWARK, N.J. - Patrick Sharp scored three goals and the Chicago Blackhawks avoided a rare second straight loss with a 5-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Sharp, Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa scored in a span of 4:04 early in the third period to give the Blackhawks a 4-1 lead. Sharp added his 25th of the season and capped his hat trick with less than 2 minutes to play after New Jersey had pulled to 4-3.

Duncan Keith had three assists and fellow defenceman Brent Seabrook two in the four-goal third period against Martin Brodeur. Antti Raanta made 24 saves for Chicago.

Marek Zidlicky scored twice and fellow defenceman Andy Greene once for New Jersey, which lost in regulation for only the second time in nine games (5-2-2). Both defeats have come against the defending Stanley Cup champions, who lost in overtime to the Islanders on Thursday.

PENGUINS 5, RANGERS 2

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored his 23rd goal and added two assists as Pittsburgh beat New York for its 11th straight home win.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves for Pittsburgh and Jussi Jokinen ended a long scoring drought with two goals. Chris Kunitz also scored twice for the Penguins, who won for the 10th time in their last 12 meetings with the Rangers.

Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma earned his 231st victory, leaving him one shy of Eddie Johnson's franchise record.

Mats Zuccarello and Ryan McDonagh scored third-period goals for New York. Rangers captain Ryan Callahan returned after missing nine games with a knee injury.

DUCKS 5, OILERS 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ben Lovejoy scored two goals in the first period, Jonas Hiller made 16 saves in his 10th consecutive victory and Anaheim beat Edmonton for its 12th win in 13 games.

Kyle Palmieri, Tim Jackman and Andrew Cogliano also scored for the Ducks, who improved to 16-0-2 at home this season and remained one point behind Chicago for the overall NHL lead.

Hiller extended his franchise-record winning streak for a goalie as the Ducks followed up their 11-1-1 December with their sixth consecutive win over the Oilers, who haven't beaten Anaheim since April 2012.

Boyd Gordon and Nail Yakupov scored in Edmonton's fourth straight loss. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 32 shots for the Oilers, who have lost 10 of 12 and are stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference.

The Ducks have the second-longest points streak at home to open a season in the last 25 years, trailing only San Jose's 20-0-2 start five years ago.

LIGHTNING 2, FLAMES 0

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Ben Bishop made 19 saves in his fourth shutout of the season, sending Tampa Bay to a victory over Calgary.

Rookie forwards Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov scored for the Lightning, who have gone 7-1-1 in their last nine games to move within two points of first-place Boston in the Atlantic Division.

Calgary ended its five-game homestand with four straight losses in regulation. Since the Christmas break, the Flames have one goal — by rookie Sean Monahan — in the last 245 minutes, 5 seconds.

The Flames got defenceman Dennis Wideman back after he missed 16 games with a broken hand. But even with his presence on the power play, Calgary went 0 for 5 with the man advantage.
