SALMON ARM - The justice system evidently did not take a man’s hair-pulling and spitting lightly.
Christopher Kent Kinakin, born in 1954, was charged on March 1 with assault and assaulting a peace officer in relation to an unusual Jan. 18 incident at an adult education facility in Salmon Arm.
At the time, Salmon Arm RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Scott West said a 63-year-old man refused to leave the centre and assaulted a 38-year-old employee by pulling her hair.
“After being arrested and taken back to the Salmon arm RCMP detachment cells he committed another assault on one of our detachment members. The 63-year-old spat on the RCMP officer while being processed in the detachment,” West said in a release.
Police said the man was released on a promise to appear in court “after he had calmed down.”
Kinakin has a substantial record in Salmon Arm court, including a conviction for mischief in 2016 and arson damaging property in 2015.
He’s due in Salmon Arm Provincial Court on April 10 for a first appearance on the assault charges.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
