Hair pulling, spitting gets 63-year-old man in trouble with Salmon Arm RCMP

SALMON ARM - Hair pulling and spitting aren’t your usual offences when it comes to assaults, but that’s what police say happened with a 63-year-old man in the Shuswap last week.

On Thursday, Jan. 18,  at 10 a.m., police were called to deal with a man who did not want to leave an undisclosed adult education facility in Salmon Arm, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Scott West says in a media release.

“A 63-year-old male suspect who was refusing to leave had assaulted a 48-year-old female staff member by pulling on her hair,” West says.

The man was arrested and removed from the site, West says. After being arrested and taken back to the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment, he committed another assault by spitting on the RCMP officer while being processed, West says.

Police are recommending two charges of assault, West says.

The man was released from custody only after he had calmed down. He is expected to return to court in April.

At no time were children involved or victimized in the incident as it did not occur at a public or private grade school facility, West says in the release.
