Group of men with guns turn out to be amateur filmmakers with props in Vancouver

RCMP responded to calls about a group of men with guns, they were actors who did not follow proper procedure for filming in public.

North Vancouver RCMP were called about a group of men walking around with rifles and body armour, turns out they were actors in an amateur action movie.

The group were filming a scene in an underground parking garage on Oct. 7, and had realistic prop guns and armour, according to an RCMP press release.

When officers arrived on the scene they were quickly informed of the misunderstanding. Police noted the filmmakers did not get permits to film in the public space.

The filmmakers did not notify nearby businesses or residents about their project.

“Police take firearms complaints very seriously due to the threat they pose to public and officer safety. We will respond with appropriate resources, tactics, and level of force each time,” Const. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP said in the release.

The guns were fake, but RCMP says these kinds of situations pose a real problem.

“In this instance, we are glad that no one was seriously injured while responding to the potential threat. However, incidents like these have a negative impact on our ability to respond to other real emergencies that are occurring in the city,” Const. Sahak said.

The filmmakers and actors were educated about the proper procedures for filming something like this in public and were let go with a warning.
