A West Kootenay parent has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his child's high school principal.

According to a Grand Forks RCMP media release, the incident occurred at Grand Forks Secondary School where the parent is accused of assaulting the principal.

Police say the incident occurred May 1 at roughly 2 p.m.

RCMP officers arrived at the school and arrested the parent without further incident.

"No serious injuries were reported, and no students or other staff members were involved or at risk during the event," the media release says. "The arrested parent was later released on an undertaking, with conditions prohibiting contact and restricting them from attending the school."

The RCMP media release gives no details of why the parent was at the school or what led to the alleged assault. There is no indication in the release as to whether the parent was the student's mother or father.

Anyone with additional information related to this incident is urged to contact the Grand Forks RCMP detachment.
