Patients in the Central Okanagan now have access to a new program that will let them stay in their own home and get hospital-quality care.
The Hospital at Home program was launched in January at Kelowna General Hospital, according to an Interior Health media releases issued today, March 12.
The home-care option is available for patients with acute medical needs who also need hospitalization and inpatient care, Interior Health said. Patients will get daily visits and virtual consultations.
“Providing patients the ability to receive care and recover in their own homes is good for the patient and benefits the health-care system,” Minister of Health Josie Osborne said in the release.
Each patient also gets at least one in-person visit along with regular virtual check-ins.There’s a virtual call bell and phone number to connect with their care team 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
So far 30 patients in Kelowna have qualified for the program, the health authority said.
“As one of Canada’s fastest-growing metropolitan areas, it is crucial that we continue to evolve our health-care services to meet the needs of our growing and aging population,” Kelowna Mayor and Central Okanagan Regional Hospital District chair Tom Dyas said in the release.
