Kamloops RCMP are on the lookout for scammers who have been meeting their victims in person.
After 30 reports in just two days, police say victims have lost "thousands" of dollars to the scammers posing as either legal counsel or friends of victim's family members, according to an RCMP news release issued today, Dec. 30.
The scammers "claim they need money to pay for bail or legal fees after being involved in an accident they are at fault in," RCMP said.
"The scammers are also posing as the family member and on numerous occasions have been so convincing the victims believe the person to be their loved one in danger," the release reads.
Police first warned the public on Wednesday, Dec. 28, of the fraudsters, but now issued an update including photos of a likely suspect.
"A female suspect was identified on two occasions picking up money from a residence," according to Kamloops RCMP.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect meeting a target in Kamloops, according to RCMP.

RCMP describe the suspect as as petite, 5'2" tall and possibly Asian. She's likely not working alone, however, as she was seen in the passenger seat of a white SUV or car.
"Kamloops RCMP would like to remind the public, scammers are very believable but lawyers or any other professional agency will never request to meet to pick up cash in a parking lot, a restaurant, a park or at their residence," the release reads.
