KELOWNA – Musicians from across Canada will be in Kelowna next year for four days of live performances and workshops aimed at linking undiscovered talent with music producers.

BreakOut West is held in a different Canadian city each year, and organizers announced recently that Kelowna has been chosen for 2018.

The event will include a three-night music festival of new talent from Western Canada, a four-day career development conference and international industry program, awards programs honouring the best of Western Canada’s artists and industry, according to a media release.

CEO of Creative B.C. Prem Gill says the potential impact of BreakOut West is "measurable on several levels."

“The performance and production of music in British Columbia is both culturally and economically valuable at the local level,” Gill says in the release. “Through support of the B.C. Music Fund, the city of Kelowna will host B.C., Canadian and international music industry professionals at BreakOut West, creating a forum for business while providing music lovers a fantastic festival experience.”

It will take place at various venues around Kelowna from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14, 2018.

The festival was last in Kelowna in 2010.

Host committee chair Karma Lacoff calls it a chance to show what Kelowna has to offer.

"We know the event will drive economic impact through tourism and music industry development as well as being a super fun time for all that attend, local and visitors,” Lacoff says in the release.

Submissions for BreakOut West Festival and Western Canadian Music Awards will open in January 2018 at the BreakOut West website
