Fortis B.C. will be using low-flying helicopters across the province this summer to to inspect natural gas lines.
The company said from mid-July through August residents may see low-flying helicopters performing aerial inspections.
Talon Helicopters has received approval from Transport Canada to conduct the low-flying inspections and conduct LiDAR mapping of high-pressure natural gas transmission lines, according to a Fortis B.C. media release issued today, July 15.
There won't be any activity on the ground in relation to the flights, Fortis B.C. said.
The inspections are part of the company's management program that ensures natural gas systems are operating properly.
Fortis promises flight time over a single area will be minimal.
