Former Vernon city councillor Scott Anderson is seeking the Conservative Party of Canada's nomination in the new riding of Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee.
At this point, Anderson is seeking support from current and prospective party members, according to a media release issued today, March 18.
“This nomination race will not be easy, and I ask for the support of everyone who wants to have a firm voice in Ottawa,” Anderson said in the release. “I’m asking anyone who wants to support me, to become a member of the Conservative Party of Canada and to let me know so I can tell you where and when the voting will be.”
Anderson already has support from former Conservative politicians including Darrel Stinson, Vernon's former MP, and John Duncan who was a cabinet Minister under former Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
“I know (Anderson) to be an honest, dependable and hardworking man who is willing to listen and get the job done,” Stinson said in the release.
Anderson is a North Okanagan business owner who served two terms as a Vernon city councillor and as interim leader of the BC Conservative Party. Anderson served in the military as a captain with the BC Dragoons and later in the Canadian Armed Forces Public Affairs branch in Ottawa.
“I have experience, both at our local/provincial level and at the federal level, and the drive to bring our regional concerns to Ottawa,” Anderson said.
Anderson first got involved with the federal Conservative party in 1993 when he worked as a legislative assistant for an MP, the release said. He's also been a member of the North Okanagan Shuswap Constituency Association since 2014.
“Bringing a common-sense viewpoint back to Ottawa is only part of the job of MP as I see it,” Anderson said. “Your member of Parliament should also have the courage and conviction to speak up and bring your voice to Ottawa and that’s what I intend to do.”
To gain the party's nomination, Anderson will have to be elected internally in the constituency association by party members. He hopes to see more of his supporters become members of the association as they will have a right to vote in the internal elections that could allow him to be the party's candidate.
“In order to become the candidate, I need to earn the vote of the majority of CPC members in the new riding. Only Conservative party members are able to vote for the nominee they want to represent them,” he said.

The upcoming Federal Election will take place on or before Oct. 20, 2025.
